Radiohead’s House of Cards videos review

The current issue of CR features The Annual, showcasing the best work of the past year. Nine projects have been chosen for our Best in Book section, the ultimate accolade. We will feature each of them in a series of posts this week with additional content to further explain each project. In this post, watch a making-of film for James Frost's Radiohead video and see the responses of filmmakers to the release of its data via Google

The video for Radiohead’s House of Cards, directed by James Frost, is a technological first. Instead of using cameras, the promo was shot entirely by lasers and scanners, giving the images of a party, a street scene, and lead singer Thom Yorke an eerie and enigmatic effect.

The technique is explained in this making-of video:
As befitting the techie quality of the video, it was first released on Google.com. In addition, visitors to the site could also download the data and create their own visualisations, some of which are shown here.

US blogger claims the band decamped to LA to escape the arts weather
Radiohead have been recording in tone"to intend absent from the dismal arts winter", according to reports.

The band, along with producer Nigel Godrich, set up studio in a house in the tone Hills for a three-week session, and held a twine band on January 30. A blog by LA Times writer Jia-Rui Cook, originally published at Postmark Here, described the party:

"Bryan [Cook, engineer] helped transform a house in the tone Hills into a recording studio and spent the terminal three weeks there recording Radiohead with Nigel Godrich. On Saturday, we waded through a route full of Priuses and Minis to intend to the twine party.

"I was ill sight Beck, Salma economist and Danger Mouse chatting around the same pool where Dean histrion and the Rat Pack used to secure out. Thom Yorke periodically toyed with the iPhone that controlled the speakers. Usually he skipped nervy to a Rolling Stones song."

Cook went on to expose that Godrich told her the adverse US weather had helped the band to focus on recording:

"The band wanted to record in LA to intend absent from the dismal arts winter. Nigel said they were belike unerect about likewise much in the sunshine when they first arrived. When it started pouring down, they realised someone up there was telling them to intend on with it. If their terminal album was 'In Rainbows', I guess they could call this digit 'In Rainstorms'.
